TSHIRT FEATURE v.25

Well I've been meaning to bring this back for months now and I'm so happy that I finally have a feature to share with you guys. I feel like I lost touch with what my blog was initially about. I'm a tshirt fanatic, I pretty much live on a pile of shirts and they surround me. I'm hoping I can keep up with this, baby steps! Okay enough blabbing and on to the feature.

Name/Location: Taylor Vinson, Oklahoma City.

Tell me about the shirt: Sabertooth Zombie T-shirt, tour design, X-files rip/parody/homage.

Why is it important to you?: The funny thing about this shirt, is that I bought it mostly because I thought it was a hilarious and tastefully done parody. As someone with a fairly adept sense of humor, I can appreciate a good gag. Also, this shirt has lasted me the longest of any given band shirt I’ve owned since I started going to shows. Despite my tastes in music changing, and my waistline growing, Sabertooth Zombie remains one of my favorite bands from the time I was in high school, and they’re one of the only ones still playing. AND THIS SHIT STILL FITS!

Where did you get it? : June 6th maybe? Definitely the first week of June 2008 when they came through Oklahoma City and played some shitty Christian venue with Ceremony, and Life Long Tragedy. If my memory serves correct, it was the second-to-last show LLT every played, because they broke up shortly after.

Any story you want to share about it?: A lot of the bands I used to listen to in High School, well, to put it simply in hindsight, they all suck. I was straight edge, very narrow minded, and basically just listened to every boring melodic hardcore band my friends did. I was one of the only people in that circle of friends who liked STZ, and coincidentally, I’m one of the only ones still involved with a lot of punk in that circle of friends. They grew out of it, but despite my gut, I haven’t grown out of this shirt.

I guess the Tl;dr is: Shirt is a great time/place memento. Also, Midnight Venom will make you mosh.

Post your blog/band site/whatever:
I played in two pop-punk bands, our demos are free.

Other than that, I just do stand up comedy, and work all the fucking time.

TSHIRT FEATURE V.24

Well this tshirt feature will be a little different. Joanna is one of my best friends, her and her boyfriend shane are doing a feature today. We decided just to put them together.

Name/location Joanna long island, ny

Tell me about the shirt: This is a shirt from the singer/song writer Owen. its printed on american apparel and its probably the most comfortable shirt i own.

Why is it important to you?: i listen to owen every single day, to say he's my favorite is an understatement. i also despise children more than anyone i know so its like this shirt was made for me

Where did you get it? : i ordered it from the polyvinyl website for 6 bucks when they were having a sale.

Any story you want to share about it?: ive definitely gotten a lot of weird looks about it. especially the one time i wore it to work.
Post your blog/band site/whatver i dont have a blog, i just want people to read yours!!

name/location: Shane from Lindenhurst Long Island

Tell me about the shirt: It's The Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels! He is a pro wrestler.

Why is it important to you?: It's HBK. It should be important to everyone! He was just my favorite wrestler when I was younger.

Where did you get it? : I got it from my friends brother. Don't know why he would give away such an awesome shirt but he did.

Any story you want to share about it?: It rules.

Post your blog/band site/whatever: Read http://www.abovetopsecret.com/

TSHIRT FEATURE V.23

I'm really excited about this weeks feature! Another one of my girlfriends is going to be featured and thats always fun.

Name/Location: My name is Anne, I live in Belgium.

Tell me about the shirt: It's a Restless Youth shirt from their 2006 summer tour after they released 'Light Up Ahead'.

Why is it important to you?: I bought this shirt the first time I saw them and they quit about a year later so I didn't get to see them play a lot. I really liked this band, it was different than what I was used to. This is one shirt I still wear a lot.

Where did you get it? : Ieperfest '06 in Belgium. They only had it left in XL so I made it smaller.

Any story you want to share about it?: I made my first friend in freshman year of college because she was trying to read the back of this shirt.

Post your blog/band site/whatever: Anne's tumblr

TSHIRT FEATURE V.22

I'm excited to bring back my tshirt features. I've been a little uninspired the last few months and I'm excited that my friend Stan is back again to do another feature.

Name/Location: Hi! Lynn! I’m Stan and I live in a suburb of the great city of Atlanta, GA

Tell me about the shirt: This is an XL Fire & Ice shirt. Printed on a AAA brand tee shirt.

Why is it important to you? Because I do realize that Fire & Ice rocks, ok! Friends supporting a friend that’s what I believe in. I’ve also been known to wear this with a Fire & Ice hat and Fire & Ice sweat shorts. Don’t Judge me. Shit when it gets cold I might wear it under a Fire & Ice hooded sweatshirt.

Where did you get it? I picked this bad boy up at the Naysayer record release a few weeks ago for $10. How cool is that? I got a sweet shirt from a sweet band and I didn’t have to drop a lot of money on it over Ebay, I know it seems hard to believe but you can go to shows and see good bands and buy their merch straight from the.

Any story you want to share about it? One time I saw Free Spirit and Rival Mob and bought merch and didn’t resale it on ebay. Is that hard to believe in 2011? I try to only wear shirts from bands that are still bands and still play hardcore gigs(sometimes I wear my Killing Time shirt I got from you, Thanks for that by the way.) When Out Crowd gigs I try to wear my friend’s band shirt. Well today is 9-11 so I’ll wear a Warzone shirt, R.I.P. Ray

Post your blog/band site/whatever: I sing for a youth crew oi band called Out Crowd and do a poor job at the tumblr game. http://lifeofalifer.tumblr.com/

TSHIRT FEATURE v.21

Name/Location: My name is Robert/Rob/Warfish. I'm from a place called Long Island, New York.

Tell me about the shirt: This is the Earth Crisis "To the X I'm Crucified" shirt. It is my favorite Earth Crisis design, let alone one of my favorite shirt designs ever.

Why is it important to you?: It's important to me because Earth Crisis advocates two things that are very important to me. The Straight Edge and veganism. The shirt kind of expresses that I intend to hold on to both of those things for the rest of my life.

Where did you get it?: I was browsing someone's HowsYourEdge (I forgot their name) page and I saw that they had it listed, so on my 18th birthday, I emailed them and asked them if they would part with it, and they did. I was very happy.

Any story you want to share about it? There isn't really any story to tell about it, yet.

Post your blog/band site/whatever: Be on the lookout for a zine I'm making called TRUE BLUE FANZINE. So far, it features interviews with: Shai Hulud, Free Spirit, Soul Search, Incendiary, Twitching Tongues, and more, as well as tons of photos/drawings.

TSHIRT FEATURE v.20

im super excited for this feature! i get extra happy when my friends do features and stan is awesome. hes doing a feature on a hat, so this post has a twist.

Tell me about the shirt!
I will do you one better and tell you about a hat, not just any hat but a Fire & Ice hat. I was told it is made after a Prong hat that Boots has. It is pretty sweet. I'm not sure how many they made but boy am I glad I got my hands on one.

Why is it important to you?
A lot of bands make mesh hats and fitted hats but Fire & Ice took a step in a different direction with this bad boy. It fits great, has a cool logo and looks cool as hell. I like supporting my friends and supporting great core bands, this hat allows me to do both.

Where did you get it?
Fire & Ice made these for United Blood fest 2010. I was walking to get pizza and saw Dave Boots with the box, dropped $15 and walked away with a smile. I think they sold out kind of fast and not fetch a pretty penny on ebay. They made a blue one with a different print that I have been trying to score for a while now.

Any story you want to share about it?
Note the fact that there is no mesh and you get the nice string across the brim. My hope is that in 20 years kids speak of this hat the way that my fellow coreman David Jaycox and myself speak of the legendary Warzone hat.

check out stan's blog!
http://lifeofalifer.tumblr.com/

stan also does a zine called the atlanta youth report, if youre ever at a show or fest and see one... PICK IT UP!

TSHIRT FEATURE v.19

Name/Location: Jerome from da Pacific Northwest

Tell me about the shirt: It's beautiful, really. Far and away my favorite design by the long-lived Type-O Negative. Not super tacky, simple design, and it works really well. I was a really big Carnivore fan for a while before I got into Type-O, and I was really hesitant when I started listening to Type-O, because there's just so much material to take in. But i fell in love with the band and began my hunt for the perfect piece of merchandise.

Why is it important to you?: Few reasons. It's an XL but fits like the perfect large. nice and long, not really wide. It's probably my most worn shirts, because of how awesome it fits. The phrase on the back, 'Above All Things Be A Man', is probably the realest thing ever. Todd's Ship Gods and The Dream is Dead are both great songs to rep, as well.

Where did you get it?: I snagged this on ebay from some euro [i'm like 90% sure these shirts were sold on a euro tour, as well as a longsleeve version, cca 1997] for decently cheap. like $13 plus shipping, if i recall.

Any story you want to share about it?: xtimx can suck it.

Post your blog/band site/whatever: http://www.facebook.com/jerometalife but I seldomly add people I don't know, so listen to this band instead

TSHIRT FEATURE v.18

Name/Location: Pete / Allston, MA

Tell me about the shirt: It's a bootleg Saccharine Trust t-shirt, made from the artwork featured on the "Paganicons" LP insert. It also features the band's logo from the jacket cover.

Why is it important to you?: Paganicons is my favorite SST release, and one of my favorite records of all-time. It's the shirt that I used to dream of existing, and then one day, someone made it and sold it for $13.

Where did you get it?: It was a "Buy it now" item on Ebay.

Any story you want to share about it? I've been exclusively wearing it over this shirt for the last three years:

Post your blog/band site/whatever: http://talkispoisonidea.tumblr.com/

and here's a candid photo w/ this shirt I wear twice a week:

everyone check out pete's blog!!

TSHIRT FEATURE v.17

Name/Location: Scott...Indianapolis, Indiana

Tell me about the shirt: Aways Aware t-shirt designed by Spoiler in 2007. Always Aware were from Chicago and members went on to be in Thought Crusade (Triple B Records).

Why is it important to you?: I love this shirt, its one of my favorite fitting shirts and I had always wanted it since i had seen it, but they didn't have this design the two times i ever saw them.

Where did you get it?: I got it when my band, Picked Clean, played with Thought Crusade (the singer of AW is in TC now) and he had a box of shirts for sale and i grabbed it super fast out of the box.

Any story you want to share about it? From what i have been told only like 15 of these shirts exist outta of like 50 or so they made. Someone stole the rest or some shit like that. I recently had someone offer me $100 for this shirt of my back, haha.

Post your blog/band site/whatever: Check out my band, Picked Clean, http://www.pickedclean.blogspot.com/ , new 7" out soon on Six Feet Under Records.
i also just found the facebook for picked clean. like them and support!

TSHIRT FEATURE v.16

his nice picture doesnt mesh well with my layout haha

Owner – Russell V.
Brooklyn, New York City, New York

tell me about the shirt!
There's really nothing too particular about the shirt that makes it standout in terms of its design. In fact, I'm sure those who frequent your blog and all the cool guy shirt enthusiasts out in the world wide web would be quick to scoff at the design. Bah! Humbug! This is that 'classic', I suppose you would call it today, straight edge print. That or chalk one up for the “yet another shirt in the endless barrage that is Floorpunch rips” category. You'll probably spot about five of these a show... minimum. Bold X on breast, 'NEW YORK STRAIGHT EDGE' print on the back. Nothing too fancy or spectacular here, folks. But the simplicity is what counts; the subtlety is really effective and the color choices are quite exquisite (dark blue on white). The shirt, printed by the cheeky playboy Nathaniel M., one afternoon at his college workshop, even bares some flaws, including some tiny particle paint smudges and minor tearing on the left sleeve. Pretty nifty, I must say. Gives it some necessary character that shirts long for.

why is it important to you?
Like I said above, it was printed by my friend Nathaniel, who did this on the whim. It's not some OG vintage or wicked crucial Chain of Strength or Youth of Today design but the fact that my friend took the time to make these is significant, especially when taking in account what straight edge means to me (or us). If I remember, he printed a mere total of four; one for himself and the others for his friends. The one I own is the original, which Nat wore before handing it over to me. Besides myself, one went to Alex G. and another to Brian G., both of the dynamic Staten Island straight edge. This is when Alex was still straight edge but was tethering on breaking, which he did in the coming weeks. Sad moment in edge history, ranking right up there with Mental. Now he sits in his room, clutching an empty bottle of Jack in his left hand and an X-Box 360 controller in his right, longing for company and acceptance. No, but seriously, he's still our boy and only drinks fine imported alcohol. Classy! I don't think Brian ever even wore his because Nat printed the wrong size? I don't remember the exact details. But the only two who ever really wore the shirts were Nathaniel and myself. Strange, huh?

where did you get it?
Whoops! I guess I should've read all the questions collectively before answering them. But to sum up the long paragraph above (TL;DR): the shirt was given to me, as a gift, by my friend.

any story you want to share about it?
Before I got the shirt, Nat was the original owner and was going to hand me another one he printed up (red print as opposed to blue) but because our schedules didn't coincide and Nat being a true poser who doesn't attend shows on the regular (or ever!) he gave me the one with the blue print. I like this one better; the fabric is thinner than the one I was initially slated to receive, which is a huge plus because I can't stand those thick, heavy duty shirts everyone is printing on today (ahem, Gildan). Nat wore the hell out of this shirt, I'll tell ya, and I thank him for that as it's been nicely broken into as a result. I even remember we were all hanging hard one night and were watching a movie but Nat fell asleep all while donning the shirt (tossing and turning is always a sure sign of a shirt being broken into nicely). Thanks for doing all the work, dude! Shout outs to: Lynn, Tee Till Death, 538 Johnson crew, the people who keep outbidding me on the original Swatch X-Rated in the last three years, all the New York/New Jersey moshers (past, present and future) and the straight edge. XXX.

TSHIRT FEATURE v.15

Name/Location: xCHIPxSEM Miami, FL.

Tell me about the shirt: Earth Crisis "Destroy The Machines Records Release Design".

Why is it important to you?: A show only design that was printed specifically for the release of Destroy The Machines in 1995 in Syracuse.

Where did you get it?: I got this particular shirt from Patrick Kitzel of Reaper Records. My wife has been good friends with him for years and he gave me the heads up that he was going to sell some stuff to raise money for future Reaper releases. He knew I collected ExC merch so he sold it to me outright instead of going through Ebay.

Any story you want to share about it? Cabal printed this and sold it at the show eventually selling what was left over through their catalog. The print is one color and features the date of the show on the back. You can also see Karl wearing the "Rebel Alliance" Cabal design in the photo on the back

TSHIRT FEATURE v.14

Name/Location: Geoff Mitchell, Atlanta

Tell me about the shirt: Arkangel "Prayers Upon Deaf Ears" design on a navy blue XL Screen Stars shirt.

Why is it important to you?: This is one of those shirts that I never thought I would own. It seems like merch from Arkangel is very hard to come by in the first place, so this was a lucky find. I was fortunate enough to score a shirt from a band/release that was one of my favorites from the late 90s and I'm very stoked about it.

Where did you get it?: I found it on Ebay around the summer time of last year. A dude who's name I can't even pronounce sold it to me all the way from Thailand. Sure, I waited weeks and weeks for it to come in the mail, but it was worth it.

Any story you want to share about it? Not really a story to tell about it, but I'll mention that this thing will never leave my closet/collection, haha. One of my favorites in my collection and I will be pitting in Heaven while wearing this thing whenever I die.

For those that care to check out some things:
I sing in a 90s rip-off band called Deathbed and you can listen and download our demo here: http://deathbed.bandcamp.com/
I also run a hardcore shirt blog called Don't Forget the Shirts: http://xdftsx.blogspot.com/

TSHIRT FEATURE v.13

im so excited to have my friend alena do this feature! shes also the first girl!

name/location:
Alena L., St. Louis, Missouri

tell me about the shirt!:
This is the men's 'Elvis' shirt.

why is it important to you?:
This is the first band shirt that I have bought in AT LEAST 8 years and I just wanted to support this band because I absolutely love them. Musically and especially lyrically. I love/relate to pretty much everything OWTH has done, but the album 'In Desolation' could have been written from my own head. As "depressing" as I've been told that is - to me it's not. Seeing/hearing this band live always makes me feel incredibly stoked and like I have no care in the fucking world -nothing else gives me that feeling.

where did you get it?:
I picked this shirt up when I saw them here at Pop's [across the river in IL technically].

any story you want to share about it?
The only story I really have about this shirt kind of ties into what I wrote above about why it's important. When I saw them here it was last minute & in the midst of a lot of personal chaos going on in my life. I didn't know OWTH was even playing here until the day of, when a friend sent me a text asking if I was going. Had this been any other band I would not have gone, no matter how much I wanted to, because I was physically ill and mentally had checked out. Literally 2 days prior to this I told my husband "I really need to see Off With Their Heads again" [because of whatever it is they stir up inside me] and then BAM they happened to be playing here and I would have missed it had it not been for my friend Matt.

I pushed through the physical sickness and mentally was just so happy they were playing I didn't care or think about anything else. I admit, I am normally a pretty insecure person and tend to not really "go all out" for bands but this night I lost my shit up front, singing along to every song, throwing my arms/hands in the air, was punching/pounding the shit out of the stage and not only did I not give a fuck about looking ridiculous, I also was just oblivious that anyone else was in that venue with me. I felt my age the next day though when I was bruised and my arms were sore as shit hahaha. It was a night I won't forget and I'm really thankful that this band is around.

this is off with their heads facebook

TSHIRT FEATURE v.12

The front says "Sheer Terror" on the left breast..and down one of the sleeves it says "You Never Sausage A Band"

owner- adam

why is it important to you?: Sheer Terror has always been one of my top 3 bands

where did you get it?: Mike Walters ( old bass player of Sheer Terror) gave it to me. We are old friends, saw he had it up on ebay for sale..contacted him..and he took it down before any bids hit it..and sent it to me.

any story you want to share about it? Have had the shirt for about 6 years, and still havent wore it.

sheer terror is one of my favorite bands, i was glad i could have a feature on this!

adam isnt in a band or anything, but sheer terror is playing a bunch of shows this year so check them out!

TSHIRT FEATURE v.11

Owner- Bryan
I'm in Chicago.

Tell me about the shirt!:
I had his shirt made a couple days after Mental broke edge(Greg) and wore it to the show they played in Chicago.

why is it important to you?:
It was the last time Mental played Chicago and broke up a bit after that. It's a reminder of actually caring about being edge, but then like Mental also broke haha!

where did you get it?:
I bought the t-shirt at Target and a nice street worker on Milwaukee Ave airbrushed it up.

any story you want to share about it?:
While at the show I was confronted about the shirt by various members of the band asking if I thought it was funny. I didn't realize it was such a sore subject at the time! The shirt also has a nice tear on the shoulder from a kid being bummed out about the shirt and trying to rip it off me.

TSHIRT FEATURE v.10

name/location: Jad Ryan - Australia

why is it important to you?: Orchid are without a doubt are my all time favourite band, 'Chaos Is Me' is also my favourite album. It is important to me because ever since i started getting into the band I really wanted something to show that I was a fan. When I started looking for merch I was pretty bummed that there were so many bootlegs out there and very few official shirts available. Screamo bands are a bit like that they usually have only 1 or 2 shirt designs that are usually pretty hard to find. By the time I had started looking, all their merch designs were long out of print as the band had called it quits years ago. Ebay was the only place their merch could be bought. The guy that sold me this told me he bought this from the singer at one of their shows circa 2000, wish I could've been there, would have given anything to see them live.

where did you get it?: got it from Ebay a few years ago, had been looking for a shirt for ages so was really stoked when one finally came up for auction.

any story you want to share about it?: The band's label put out an official reprint of this design in around 2006 to combat the high ebay prices and large number of bootlegs beign sold.

If you've never heard the band, give em a listen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edpot4xOqsI

TSHIRT FEATURE v.9

owner- tim
hes in columbus

tell me about the shirt!:
It's Haymaker's Side By Side rip off. The original art was in the insert of the Love The Music, Hate The Kids 7".I've always loved the Side By Side rip off. This one even more so because of the inclusion of weapons into the classic silhouettes. Add in the words "First Jesus... Then You" and a classic circular logo and you've got a great shirt.

why is it important to you?:
Haymaker is the only band I still actively collect things from (or at least attempt to). I remember I used to see this shirt on How's Your Edge and I never thought I'd get it. I just lucked out one day and it was awesome when I got it in the mail. I actually had it and I felt accomplished. A total nerd fanboy but still accomplished.

where did you get it?:
I lucked out two years ago or so when I posted about collecting Haymaker stuff on the Cleveland HC messageboard. Some dude on there said he had the shirt and to make him an offer.

any story you want to share about it?:
There's no story attached to the shirt so I'll use this as my own classified ad. If anyone has the baseball shirt version of this design let me know. Same goes for a test press of the LP or the Bullet cover of the Live on CIUT 7"

TSHIRT FEATURE v.7

owner- dave
hes in the band outlast!

tell me about the shirt!: Our Turn crewneck. Classic design.

why is it important to you?: OT is one of my favorite bands and it was a gift. Plus, it's just a really crucial design.

where did you get it?: It was a gift from Stephen St. Germain of The First Step.

any story you want to share about it?: Apparently there are only 12 of these in existence and they were made for a few East Coast shows that the band did years ago. Stephen picked it up then as he was friends with the band and I believe TFS was doing the shows with OT. Fast forward to this past year and Stephen had heard that I was a big OT fan and he emailed me saying that he was selling some stuff and asked if I'd be interested. Of course I was and he said that he'd get back to me and we'd work out a price. A little bit later, Stephen was hanging with the fellas in Mindset, On, Get the Most, and Hands Tied on a little weekend they were doing. My band Outlast was playing the NYC show and we were just hanging out between bands and Stephen tossed me the sweatshirt and I said, "Here you go, man." I asked how much he wanted and he said "Don't worry about it. Just hang on to it since there are only 12 of them." I thanked him profusely and that was that.

TSHIRT FEATURE V.5

owner- jimmie!
im very excited that he did one for me :)

tell me about the shirt!:
Count Me Out tour shirt from 2002

why is it important to you?:
Permanent is one of my top 5 favorite hardcore records ever , the lyrics are some of the most personal and heartfelt i have ever heard , this record no matter how much i listen to it still gets me excited and i am reminded of how awesome the years 2000 - 2003 was for hardcore , bands like this , AN , Panic , Sworn In ,Horror Show were bringing some new and exciting , how it was ok to talk about loss , people moving on , relationships , and it seems like alot of people nowadays have forgotten these bands i for one think we desperately need more bands like this today instead of the same ole tough guy generic non sense that is flooding hardcore today.

where did you get it?:
i actually got this from a good friend in little rock , i remember seeing Count Me Out in Birmingham in 2002 with Over My Dead Body , they had this shirt but only in XL but at the time i wore mediums and there was no way in hell i could wear an XL fast forward 8 years and XL is the way to go haha

any story you want to share about it?:
here is hoping one day CMO will do a reunion and you can bet i will be there going completely bat shit crazy.
